MTV’s New Horror-Slasher Film, “Savage County”
Official Movie Poster By Vincent Castiglia

Working along with Designer Matthew Manos and “Savage County” film Director, David Harris (of MTV), Vincent has created a painting for the film’s official movie poster. The film is scheduled for debut in October, 2010.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

This year, MTV offered up its take on the slasher genre with My Super Psycho Sweet 16. Now, the network is exploring Savage County, which culls its inspiration from the mad hillbilly sub-genre.

This project, directed by David Harris, also features producers David Gale (Varsity Blues) and Craig Brewer (Hustle and Flow). Harris shot the film during the summer on hi-def in Memphis, Tennessee. Leading the cast is Mimi Michaels (Boogeyman 3).

Savage County is described as a tribute to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre with “great indie rock and rockabilly music and a twist of teen drama.”

Set before prom, a mismatched group of high school kids heads to a remote pond to party. When the beer runs dry, the conversation turns to daring Patrick, the runt of the group, into knocking on the door of the Hardells – the reclusive family that owns the land the pond is on.

Patrick takes up the dare, knocks on the Hardells’ door and finds himself staring down the barrel of a shotgun. When Patrick’s friends come to his defense, the oldest Hardell is killed in the shuffle. Scared and guilty – the teens flee the crime. When the rest of the Hardell clan finds the old man murdered, they seek out vengeance. One-by-one, the teens are hunted down by Orry, the sexually oppressed mute, Willard, the long-haired wildman, and Kasper, the cold-blooded family leader.

Look for Savage County in October, 2010!!!

The Black Death was the deadliest pandemic in human history. Also known as the Bubonic Plague, it has been estimated to have killed up to 60% of Europe’s population by 1400 ce. This disease was probably carried by fleas residing on the bodies of black rats, that were regular passengers on mideval merchant ships spreading throughout the Mediterranean and Europe. The Black Death has creating a series of religious, social and economic upheavals which had profound effects on the course of human history, while also having a profound impact on art that still resonates today.
On July 24, please observe The Black Plague Art Show with us at the Congregation Gallery.

Monica Memorial Art Show

An art show featuring a whole slew of great artists. It commemorates the life and times of Monica Henk, a talented artist, sometimes model, and musician, who was tragically cut down in her prime by a hit and run driver.

The show will be covered for the tattoo press, and the final results collected in a book. All are more than welcome to come.

In 2007, tattoo artist and shining light, Monica Henk, was killed. It devastated so many of us. Countless reasons made you want to know Monica: Her humor, her funny faces, her joie de vivre. She had the best laugh ever. Her passion for art and constant desire to learn more about her craft. She would have been thirty last week.

The Monica Memorial Show at Sacred Gallery comprises tattoo artist tributes on canvas to this tiny powerhouse. The group show opens this Sunday, May 30th from 7-11PM.

Kevin Wilson, Director of Sacred, said this of the show:

“A few months ago, Kike Castillo (Monica’s brother), and Dan Henk approached me with the idea of having a small gallery show celebrating the life of Monica here at our gallery. Naturally I agreed since Sacred is where Monica started her career in the tattoo industry. It’s just a shame that she was taken from us by a hit-and-run driver whom was never caught.

Dan & Kike started to talk with artists who were willing to support this show idea, and before we knew it, this small show grew into a monster. Most every artist approached was willing to submit for this show. Whether they knew her or not, they were willing to support a fallen artist from within their community. Even the artists who didn’t have time to submit work agreed to come out and celebrate the life of Monica. This just shows you how strong of a community we’ve become over the years!”

I also spoke with Dan Henk about the exhibit:

“The exhibit is to commemorate her. It’s a show of life and what was exceptional about her, not a melancholy commiseration on her death. Almost everyone who knew Monica was thrilled to participate. The time-line and story of a life full of potential cut short resounds with many people, and even those who only knew her from the sidelines felt the impact and wanted to contribute.

I appreciate all the artists who put in their hard work and time into rendering artwork for something that is very personal for me and her brother, Kike. Her whole immediate family will be in attendance, and to them, it is a great honor.

All the paintings will be collected in a book: text and personal photos will be added by me and Kike Castillo, and will be available through Durb Morrison’s printing press.”
