MTV's New Horror-Slasher Film, "Savage County"
Official Movie Poster By Vincent Castiglia
Working along with Designer Matthew Manos and "Savage County" film Director, David Harris (of MTV), Vincent has created a painting for the film's official movie poster. The film is scheduled for debut in October, 2010.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
This year, MTV offered up its take on the slasher genre with My Super Psycho Sweet 16. Now, the network is exploring Savage County, which culls its inspiration from the mad hillbilly sub-genre.
This project, directed by David Harris, also features producers David Gale (Varsity Blues) and Craig Brewer (Hustle and Flow). Harris shot the film during the summer on hi-def in Memphis, Tennessee. Leading the cast is Mimi Michaels (Boogeyman 3).
Savage County is described as a tribute to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre with "great indie rock and rockabilly music and a twist of teen drama."
Set before prom, a mismatched group of high school kids heads to a remote pond to party. When the beer runs dry, the conversation turns to daring Patrick, the runt of the group, into knocking on the door of the Hardells - the reclusive family that owns the land the pond is on.
Patrick takes up the dare, knocks on the Hardells' door and finds himself staring down the barrel of a shotgun. When Patrick's friends come to his defense, the oldest Hardell is killed in the shuffle. Scared and guilty - the teens flee the crime. When the rest of the Hardell clan finds the old man murdered, they seek out vengeance. One-by-one, the teens are hunted down by Orry, the sexually oppressed mute, Willard, the long-haired wildman, and Kasper, the cold-blooded family leader.
Look for Savage County in October, 2010!!!
*"Savage County" needs your votes!! Almost 10,000 fans a day have demanded to see Savage County!!! But we still need MORE. Please share the link on your Facebook wall and THANK YOU for your support!!

The Congregation Gallery Presents The BLACK PLAGUE
Saturday July 24
Doors Open At 9:00pm
The Congregation Gallery | 7569 Melrose, Los Angeles CA 90046
The Black Death was the deadliest pandemic in human history. Also known as the Bubonic Plague, it has been estimated to have killed up to 60% of Europe's population by 1400 ce. This disease was probably carried by fleas residing on the bodies of black rats, that were regular passengers on mideval merchant ships spreading throughout the Mediterranean and Europe. The Black Death has creating a series of religious, social and economic upheavals which had profound effects on the course of human history, while also having a profound impact on art that still resonates today.
On July 24, please observe The Black Plague Art Show with us at the Congregation Gallery.
Monica Memorial Art Show
An art show featuring a whole slew of great artists. It commemorates the life and times of Monica Henk, a talented artist, sometimes model, and musician, who was tragically cut down in her prime by a hit and run driver.
The show will be covered for the tattoo press, and the final results collected in a book. All are more than welcome to come.
In 2007, tattoo artist and shining light, Monica Henk, was killed. It devastated so many of us. Countless reasons made you want to know Monica: Her humor, her funny faces, her joie de vivre. She had the best laugh ever. Her passion for art and constant desire to learn more about her craft. She would have been thirty last week.
The Monica Memorial Show at Sacred Gallery comprises tattoo artist tributes on canvas to this tiny powerhouse. The group show opens this Sunday, May 30th from 7-11PM.
Kevin Wilson, Director of Sacred, said this of the show:
"A few months ago, Kike Castillo (Monica's brother), and Dan Henk approached me with the idea of having a small gallery show celebrating the life of Monica here at our gallery. Naturally I agreed since Sacred is where Monica started her career in the tattoo industry. It's just a shame that she was taken from us by a hit-and-run driver whom was never caught.
Dan & Kike started to talk with artists who were willing to support this show idea, and before we knew it, this small show grew into a monster. Most every artist approached was willing to submit for this show. Whether they knew her or not, they were willing to support a fallen artist from within their community. Even the artists who didn't have time to submit work agreed to come out and celebrate the life of Monica. This just shows you how strong of a community we've become over the years!"
"The exhibit is to commemorate her. It's a show of life and what was exceptional about her, not a melancholy commiseration on her death. Almost everyone who knew Monica was thrilled to participate. The time-line and story of a life full of potential cut short resounds with many people, and even those who only knew her from the sidelines felt the impact and wanted to contribute.
I appreciate all the artists who put in their hard work and time into rendering artwork for something that is very personal for me and her brother, Kike. Her whole immediate family will be in attendance, and to them, it is a great honor.
All the paintings will be collected in a book: text and personal photos will be added by me and Kike Castillo, and will be available through Durb Morrison's printing press."

Exhibit runs; June 5 - June 26, 2010.
'Metamorphosis' will present the work of over 50 international artists, many who have never shown their work in California or the USA, along with a number of well known artists who have.
Each artist has been chosen for their ability to express themselves imaginatively with exceptional technique and uncompromised individuality. The works will cover many themes that are central to the human experience portrayed with a surreal, dreamlike and often nightmarish aesthetic.
'Metamorphosis' will be testimony to a huge international movement of figurative artists who have resisted current trends in the art world and remained true to their artistic vision.

Exclusive interview with Vincent Castiglia on AOL's NoiseCreep
Vincent shares with AOL's NoiseCreep details on his album art collaboration with Triptykon and HR Giger, on Triptykon's forthcoming release, "Eparistera Daimones".
Triptykon: Eparistera Daimones Album Artwork Announced
Eparistera Daimones, the forthcoming debut album by Triptykon, the group founded by former Hellhammer / Celtic Frost singer and guitarist Tom Gabriel Warrior, is not only musically a leviathan. Remarkably, the album will also feature the epic artwork by renowned Swiss artist H.R. Giger and New York-based surrealist Vincent Castiglia.
Triptykon
In an exceptionally rare gesture, HR Giger has granted Triptykon the use of his dramatic painting "Vlad Tepes" (work no. 412, 200 x 140 cm, acrylic on paper on wood, 1978). It is the artist's first authorized appearance on an album cover in 17 years, and the second time he collaborates with Warrior (following Celtic Frost's "To Mega Therion" album in 1985).
Vincent Castiglia contributes Triptykon, a specially created portrait of the members of the group, painted in the artist's own blood (86 x 86 cm, blood/iron oxide on archival paper, 2009). As Castiglia aptly put it, the amalgamation of works by HR Giger, Vincent Castiglia, and Triptykon on "Eparistera Daimones" forms a creative triptych in itself.
HR Giger: "I am very proud to work with Triptykon. My art hasn't appeared on an album cover for quite some time, and I feel honored to have been approached by Tom about such a collaboration for Triptykon's very first release."
Vincent Castiglia: "It's been a tremendous honor to work with both Triptykon and HR Giger on the forthcoming release of, "Eparistera Daimones". It was a project of enormous depth for me, conceptually as well as visually. I think the resonance between Triptykon's music, Giger's art, and my work is extremely powerful, and it coalesces in quite an amazing, and singular way.
Tom Gabriel Warrior: "We feel deeply privileged to be able to adorn our very first album with the work of two artists we respect enormously. To us, their astonishing contributions convey significant symbolism both with respect to our personal frame of mind as well as for this particular album and its history."
"It is an immense pleasure to be able to work with HR Giger again. He was one of our most significant mentors during the days of Hellhammer and early Celtic Frost, and he is an extraordinary human being and an artist without equal."
"Vincent Castiglia has become a close friend in recent years, and we both sensed that the time had come to create something truly unique together. I am infinitely grateful that he has lent us his incredible talent, not least because I know he incorporates as much passion, darkness, and pain into his work as I do, too."

Eparistera Daimones LP Cover, featuring "Vlad Tepes" by HR Giger (work no. 412, 200 x 140 cm, acrylic on paper on wood, 1978):
Eparistera Daimones will also feature detailed credits, full lyrics and extensive liner notes to all songs and will be released via Century Media Records under exclusive license from Prowling Death Records Ltd. on March 22nd, 2010 (Europe) and March 23rd, 2010 (North America).

The manifold occult correspondences of all three artists come to fruition within the album release. Three, being a powerful numerological portent, embodies generation, perfection, and deity. Castiglia's contribution, Triptykon, (a specially created portrait of the members of the group, painted in the artist's own blood, 86 x 86 cm, blood/iron oxide on archival paper, 2009), is likewise deeply laden with occult symbolism which harmonizes with both the evocations of Giger and Triptykon, namely endowing each band member with a talisman representing the traits of each quarter of the group; a foreboding astral catharsis culled from the 'unseen world' to commemorate the band's formation, and procession.
In keeping with semantics, Triptykon's release features the real-life "triptych" and three-fold collaboration between Triptykon the band (founded by Tom Warrior), renowned Swiss surrealist H.R. Giger, and Vincent Castiglia for the first time within the same platform. As Celtic Frost fans will summon to mind the iconic cover album artwork for the band's 1985 release, To Mega Therion, featuring H.R. Giger's 1977 painting, Satan I, Giger's contribution to Eparistera Daimones marks a resurgence of the collaboration. Castiglia, a close friend of Warrior's as well as being the first American artist to receive a solo exhibition invitation from the H.R. Giger Museum Gallery in Gruyères, Switzerland, becomes the third aspect of the dark "triptych".
Eparistera Daimones also marks the occasion of Castiglia's poster-premier. Along with HR Giger's painting, Vlad Tepes, Castiglia's painting Triptykon will additionally be featured as a fold-out poster within the LP vinyl edition of the album; the 1st time his artwork is made available in poster form.
The original painting is currently in Castiglia's collection. Details as to it's availability will be published later in 2010.

(Excerpts from the exhibition catalogue)
The first solo exhibition of paintings by Vincent Castiglia will open at the H.R. Giger Museum Gallery in Gruyeres, Switzerland on October 31st 2008 and run through Spring of 2009.
Vincent Castiglia is the first American artist to receive an exhibition invitation from the H.R. Giger Museum Gallery in its 10-year history. The 26 year old, internationally renowned New York-based artist initially drew the attention of the legendary Swiss-surrealist H.R. Giger and his wife (co-director of the museum) Carmen Scheifele Giger, after meeting the couple in 2005. Castiglia's participation in the H.R. Giger Museum's group exhibition of the Society for Art of Imagination followed in 2006 and soon resulted in plans for the artist's own solo show at the museum.
Working in the tradition of surrealism and visionary art, Castiglia states: "my paintings tend to depict iconographic forms, vital and necrotic juxtapositions, and reinterpretations of transpersonal experience."
The award-winning artist, who literally puts his life into his work, has mastered the use of his own blood as a medium. Just as this personal, iron rich pigment holds the key to countless facts and information regarding the sustenance and perpetuation of life, Castiglia's subjects are often "exposed like a body that has been dissected to determine the cause and manner of one's demise," states Detroit's Forensic Photographer, Joe Sopkowics. As he strips away layers of flesh, muscle and bone, Castiglia confronts humanity's innate fear of the unknown while exquisitely illustrating its losing battle with biological truths.
Vincent Castiglia has showcased his works on paper at museums and galleries throughout the US, Switzerland and England, including exhibits for: The Society for Art of Imagination at The H.R. Giger Museum Gallery, Switzerland, The Museum of Sex (New York), The Mall Gallery (London, England), Last Rites Gallery (New York, New York), Canvas Los Angeles (Los Angeles California), Fuse Gallery (New York), Art @ Large Gallery (New York) Gallery Lombardi (Austin Texas), C-Pop Gallery (Detroit, Michigan)The 7th Annual Dirty Show (Detroit, Michigan), Stolen Space, Gallery, (London, England), Streetwise Gallery, (Detroit, Michigan) L'Imagerie Gallery (Hollywood, California), and Ludlow Gallery (New York), where Castiglia's artwork received its first violent compliment of having the hanging work stolen from the gallery.
Castiglia's work has been featured in numerous art publications in the US and internationally, and in a segment on New York 1 News.
The H.R. Giger Museum opened in June of 1998, in Gruyeres, Switzerland. It showcases the largest collection of Giger's work on permanent public display, encompassing his paintings, sculptures, furniture and film designs, including his work on "Alien", "Poltergeist", and "Species". The top floor of the Museum houses Giger's private collection, which includes over 600 works of art by Salvador Dali, Ernst Fuchs, Dado, Bruno Weber, Günther Brus, Claude Sandoz, François Burland, Friedrich Kuhn, Joe Coleman, Sibylle Ruppert, Andre Lassen, among many others.
The H.R. Giger Museum Gallery is located in the adjoining wing of the museum complex, above the H.R. Giger Museum Bar. There, since 1999, and now on a twice a year rotating basis, Giger utilizes the three room exhibition space to show the work of artists, mostly those already in his private collection, in an effort to help broaden the art appreciation of visitors to his museum. Previous exhibitions have been for Wessi, Prof. Ernst Fuchs, Hans Bellmer, Fred Knecht, Stelio Diamantopoulos, Martin Schwarz, Claude Sandoz, Günther Brus, François Burland, Rudolf Stüssi, and the Society for Art of Imagination. Currently on exhibit are the paintings of Victor Safonkin.
An exhibition catalogue will be printed for "Remedy For the Living" Iron-Oxide Visions on Paper. The artist will be present at the opening.
Castiglia's solo exhibition at the H.R. Giger Museum Gallery will run for six months. For more information, visit: www.HRGigerMuseum.com
